McGibbeny Field Modifications
- 2008
Enlargement and Beautification
|
In spring of 2008, work began on a major modification of McGibbeny Field. In an effort to reduce seasonal wear and tear on the field surfaces caused by the baseball and football programs, the city hired Facchiano Construction to remodel the field. The outfield fences and drainage runs were removed and the field is to be extended into the new landfill surface outside the old right field fence, dumped back in 2001. The outfields are being resurfaced and leveled, and the infield is being shortened to the proper dimensions. New fencing is being installed. The outfields will be slightly longer in left and center, with right field being lengthened considerably. This new alignment will move the baseball infield off of the football playing area and eliminate the yearly strain on the dirt surface. When completed, the new alignment should provide the Knights and the Little League with more suitable playing surfaces for years to come, as well as being an overall improvement to the park itself. |
