 near completion
Nearing completion in early 1971, the new Brookline Recreation Center is ready for the finishing touches. Grand opening was in time for the 1971 summer season. This was the culmination of much hard work and planning by the Community Center Association and the City of Pittsburgh. It took almost 30 years, but Brookline finally had a first-class recreation facility for the neighborhood children. This completed Phase One of the re-development of Brookline Park.

Building the Recreation Center

Photo of the rear of the Recreation Center where the playground will be. The building is nearing completion in this photo taken April 2, 1971. Interestingly, in this back area was supposed to be an ice skating rink. The lower floor of the building is a warming hut, for skaters to come get warm by the fire and have a snack.
