Expanding The Old Recreation Building?

Picture of artists conception of new recreation center for upper
 level, 1962.

This 1962 drawing shows an artists conception of what the old recreation building was to have become. It was to be built on the hillside below Breining Street. This large state-of-the-art facility would have housed receptions, dances, meetings, and many other activities. This was the goal of the Community Center Association when it first bought the farmland in the 1940's. Due to a lack of funding, the structure was never erected, with the exception of the foundation which became known as the "blockhouse". Instead of this fine looking structure, today we have the equally impressive Brookline Memorial Recreation Center building, erected in 1970.
