Then and Now

The old Kerr House at West Liberty and Wenzell

This photo shows the old Kerr family home where it stood for many years on the hillside overlooking the intersection of West Liberty Avenue and Wenzell. For many years there was a blacksmith shop and forge located here, followed by a successful turn of the century mining operation. When the mines dried up and the need for the blacksmith's services were no longer needed, the lot below the home became home to a gas station, shown here around 1920. In later years this lot would be home to a A&P Food Market, a Thorofare Market, and finally a McDonalds franchise fast food restaurant.
