Here's the section of Brookline Boulevard at Breining Street showing what was considered a very dangerous intersection, with narrow driving lanes. This has been the scene of numerous accidents. At the vehement urging of the local citizens, the City responded and the poles were soon removed.

Fifty years later more than just the poles have been removed.
