Halloween Parade in the 80's

Here is a picture of the Chamber of Commerce's annual Halloween Parade from sometime in the early 1980's. The Mobil station, now a Co-Go's, was selling regular unleaded for $1.39 and premium for nearly $1.50. All things considered, with gas now hovering around $1.89 a gallon for regular unleaded, the mere 50 cent increase over the course of 20 years seems pretty fair. What's all the current fuss over regarding the "skyrocketing" gas prices? Has anyone checked the price of bread, milk and a box of cereal lately? Compare the inflation on these items over the same 20 year period. Maybe our wrath should be directed towards the purveyors of these household items and not solely focused on the gas companies. It's a good thing our cars do not run on milk or we would have to get a third job. While we're on the subject, what's up with $1.59 for a 20-ounce bottle of water? Someone's getting rich on our account, and it's not just big oil.
