Building Brookline Terrace (Mazza Pavilion) - 1981

Here is a photo taken in July of 1981 that shows the super structure of the Brookline Terrace (now called Mazza Pavilion) senior citizens highrise and public parking garage. The building was completed in April, 1982 and is located on the 900 block of Brookline Boulevard. Back in 1968, this section of Brookline Boulevard was home to four buildings, Tryson's Shoes, Sesto's Barber Shop, Zitelli's Boulevard Gardens and one other I can't remember. A fire that year gutted all but Zitelli's. The three burnt out buildings were demolished shortly after the fire, and Zitelli's was razed later in favor of the new highrise. Two thoughts on the building, which turns twenty in April, 2000, are first that it has been and will remain a wonderful place for Brookline retirees to spend their twilight years; and second that I am disappointed that the parking area was never really put to it's intended use, which was to provide parking for shoppers on Brookline Boulevard. When you can't find a place to park its easy to consider what a waste of fine parking space this has become. * Photo provided by Marlene Curran * |
