This is the Boy Scout Troop, known as the "Beetles Beehive", back in the early 1960s. The troop met at the Brookline Methodist Church. The photo below shows the scouts out on a camping trip in 1961. Scouting has played an important role in the education of Brookline kids for a long time, and many of us were members. Scouting was a fun experience. We got to do some neat things, like camping and outdoor projects. The best and brightest went on to become Eagle Scouts, quite an honor in a young man's life. As for myself, I never made it beyond Second Class, but I do still have my old merit badges, skill awards, and lots of fond memories of my days in the Boy Scouts of America. * Photos provided by Jude Speicher * |
