Pittsburgh's Golden Triangle - 1952

The Golden Triangle
 1952

A view of the Golden Triangle after much of the demolition of the Freight Yards, Exposition Hall and surrounding structures have been completed. Much of this work is obscured by the Point and Manchester Bridges. The photo below shows the area that in the next two decades will be transformed into Point State Park. The area is now but a bare parking lot, but soon modern skyscrapers and a beautiful park will fill this prime real estate. Note the Iron City Beer advertisement where the Bayer sign stands today on the side of Mount Washington.

Despite all of the construction going on in the lower section of the city, the Pittsburgh skyline still looked inspiring at night. The original US Steel Building and the Alcoa Building in the distance are still in varying stages of construction, but at night they just blend in with the rest of the city's skyscrapers.
