The First National Bank, incorporated in 1863, is one of the city's oldest financial institutions. In 1876, Pittsburgh had 87 banking institutions, and 27 of these were national banks. The building pictured was a 26-story structure built in 1913. At the time it was the tallest skyscraper in the city. Today, the bank is called Pittsburgh National Bank, part of Pittsburgh National Corp, and is the city's second largest financial institution. The company's new headquarters (since 1972) is a 30-story building located at Sixth Avenue and Wood Street. |
