The Duquesne Club is located on Sixth Avenue between Smithfield and Wood Streets. Organized in 1873, the exclusive club was originally located at Penn and Ninth. Their first social event was a gala dinner for President Ulysses S. Grant.

The inside of the clubhouse building is ornately decorated and is quite a setting for an afternoon lunch or social gathering, membership required. Next door to the landmark structure, at the corner of Smithfield Street and Sixth Avenue stands the old Gimbels Department Store, a Pittsburgh retail giant for many years.
