The Civic Arena

The Civic
 Arena (Mellon Arena) in 2000

The Civic Arena, located on the lower hill, has seen its share of glory over the years. The Igloo has been home to concerts, exhibitions, the old ABA Pittsburgh Pipers, the old MISL Pittsburgh Spirit, the old WTT Pittsburgh Triangles, the Duquesne Dukes, and the Pittsburgh Penguins, to name but a short list of attractions. The Beatles, the Harlem Globetrotters, the Ringling Brothers Circus and the Monster Truck "Bigfoot" have all performed in this hallowed hall. Built with a retractable roof that is occasionally opened, a fortunate few have gone for a show and been dazzled by the city skyline. Below is a photo of an open air Jazz Festival.
